Icehockey: Finland vs Russia at the Olympic Stadium

The Euro Hockey Tour continues with the Finland vs. Russia game on February 9th 2012. The fact that it is played in the Olympic Stadium, the arena of the 1952 Olympic Games, makes the game legendary and surely one to remember.

The last time finlands national icehockey team played outdoors was in 1969 against the USSR.
The game will be ibitioned live in the live-gallery. If you want to see more about the venue or the entertainment and activities at the olympic stadium then tune in to the pre-game event live-gallery. Both galleries can be found at www.ibify.com when zooming closer to Helsinki, Finland. Android-phone users can also download the 'ibify' app from Android Market and watch the live-galleries on their phones.

The following facts make this game unique and a feast for icehockey fans:
  • It's played at the Olympic Stadium: The arena of the 1952 Olympic Games.
  • It's played outdoors, with special outdoor-game rules.
  • The last international icehockey outdoor-game that the Finnish national team played was in 1969 against the Soviet Union.
  • The last time international icehockey was played at the Olympic Stadium was in February 1941 against Sweden. Finland faired miserably and lost 0-11.
  • This is an official game of the Euro Hockey Tours tournament.

Outdoor Icehockey Rules

The outdoor icehockey rules are slightly different from the usual rules. The following rules apply:

  • The breaks between the periods are 20 minutes instead of 15 minutes.
  • In outdoor games the teams will change ends in the third period at 10 minutes. This ensures that both teams get to play the same amount in the same conditions.
  • If there is heavy snowfall during the game then there will be extra breaks to clean the ice.

The game probably gets television coverage in some countries but if you don't have the chance to watch it on TV you'll definately want to check out the live-gallery during the game. No registration and it's free. Just open the gallery (click the link) when the game is about to start. Or get 'ibify' from Android Market to watch in on the go on your mobile.

For hardcore icehockey fans there will be some interesting material in the pre-game event live-gallery. Rumors are that theres quite a bit of material about the coming icehockey world championship...

Nordic Travel Fair 2012 Photo Gallery

The 3-day Nordic Travel Fair 2012 was held in on 19th - 22nd. January in Helsinki. By the looks of it the event attracted masses of visitors. A lot of countries and cities were present and trying to convince the visitors why they were the best travel destination. Other exhibitors included big travel-agencies, airlines, hotels etc. Just walking by all stands probably took more than 2 hours - without stopping that is. The event markets itself as "the biggest travel fair in northern europe". No wonder even timetravelling was present..

There is a gallery with 131 images from the event at www.ibify.com: Click here for the event details or click go to the photo-gallery directly. On android phones you can watch the gallery on the Ibify app too.

Photos from the Nordic Travel Fair 2012 event:

Travel Fair entrance at the Exhibition and Convention Center

A limo was standing in front of the exhibition centre. Snow covered and marketing "Egyptian treasures".

Entering the huge exhibition halls.

Zambia stand. Zambia was marketing Victoria Falls and walking safaris.

A whole section of the exhibition hall was dedicated to diving. There was a big pool too.

Air Baltic green as always..
.. just like Latvia. The stand green and with trees.

There were some interesting clothes at the Japan stand.

Staff of a Greece hotel posing in front of their stand

Angry Bird was always happy to pose for kids..

.. and for us too!

You could see all kinds of traditional, medieval and weird clothing at the fair.

The hallway was full of people on day

The Cuban stand had music and a hot dance performance by the cuban girls.

Germanys Autostadt stand had a shiny old-style 1982 Porche.

Customs was also present at the fair. They were showcasing what NOT to take home from your holidays.

Rovaniemi from Lappland brought their own snow in a bubble. The kids loved it. Ironically it had been snowing for the whole week and you would be wading in snow just by stepping outside..

The madagascar stand drew a lot of interest.

I knew that pretty much everything related to traveling was present but I never suspected there was a stand for time-traveling too!

In the neighboring exhibition hall was the Caravan 2012..

.. exhibition. It was open to Travel Fair visitors as well.

This is a subset of the images. Check out the full gallery (131 photos) on your android phone using the Ibify app or or visit the www.ibify.com website: click here for the event details or click go to the websites photo-gallery directly.

Ibition Blog - First post

This is the first Ibition blog entry so lets start with the first things first: What is the ibition blog about?

Ibition will cover events and photos from around the globe as they pop up. Yes, as they "pop up" sounds about right since this blog will be using photos from Ibify, a map-based photo service to publish the photos: It lets anyone take photos anonymously on their mobile and the photos will popup on the map in the exact location where the photo was taken in realtime.

What makes Ibify especially interesting is anonymous photo sharing. The fact that all photos can be submitted anonymously by anybody and anywhere. Anybody with an android-phone that is. Even photos from events covered in this blog could have been photographed by anybody just publishing a photo at the right time & location. Events in ibify are specified by "drawing" the event areas bounds on the map and giving the start & end time. Every published photo falling inside the time and area will be added to the events gallery.

Ibify was officially released three weeks ago (just before newyear 2012) but there are already some interesting photos. Let's have a look at some of the most popular photos (click on photo for original)...
